THEY WERE SILENCED WHEN FIRE FELL (Thursday, 22nd October 2026)

ByCCGA Media

Text for Today: 1 Kings 18:23-40 “Now when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, The Lord, He is God! The Lord, He is God!” (vs. 39).

Only a fool will deny proofs that are presented before him. There are people in life who will never take you serious about whatever you may be saying, until they see proofs. From our text for today, we could see how the Baal prophets worked themselves up the whole day and were exhausted with no proofs from Baal. No sign of fire, not even a flicker, no smoke and not even the smell of a smoldering match stick! Next, Elijah gets into action to prove His God. To show proofs that His God not only answers prayers offered in faith without much of a fuss but that He does so even in the most impossible situation.

Look at what Elijah did in the following verses in 1 Kings 18:32-35. Elijah, knowing the personality of His God, makes the altar on which He was expecting the fire from heaven, an impossible place for fire to burn. He pours gallons of water, three times to make it the worst place for fire to catch on. We all know that water and fire are not very good friends and that water is used to quench fire and not as fuel! The prophets of Baal must have said in their heart that Elijah must be mad to have given such an instruction, but little did they know that he serve the God of all possibilities. However, the fire of the LORD fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench. When all the people saw this, they fell, prostrate and cried, “The LORD–He is God! The LORD–He is God!”
