ADVERSITY IS NECESSARY TO BUILD CHARACTER IN PEOPLE (Sunday, 12th April 2026)
Text For Today: 1 Sam. 17:48-54 “So it was, when the Philistine arise and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried and ran towards the army to meet Philistine” (vs.48).
Someone said and I quote, “Smooth seas do not make skillful sailors, but boisterous ones do. As with the butterfly, adversity is necessary to build character in people. Beloved, I want you to know that, your experience facing and overcoming adversity is actually one of your biggest advantages. “Bishop T.D. Jakes said and I quote, “You have nothing to tell me if you have not gone through hard stuffs that shook you to your foundation in life.” The bigger your trials in life, the more interesting and challenging your testimonies become. Overcoming obstacles and challenges is what develop in us the qualities needed to fulfill God’s plan for our lives.
David had been a constant over-comer even before he came face to face with Goliath of Gath. In I Sam 17:34:36, David was recounting his past victories to King Saul when he tried to dissuade him from confronting Goliath. He said while he was tending his father’s sheep, a bear and a lion came to devour the sheep but he smote them with his bare hand and he said this uncircumcised Philistine will be like them. Beloved, David was able to conquer Goliath because he was able to conquer those wild animals earlier. Facing the wild animals was his training ground, long before Goliath came his way. Until you conquer your lion and your bear, your Goliath will not appear. And do you know what happened after David killed Goliath, he became the man of the moment, they praised him and he eventually got to the throne. Be courageous!
