Don’t Make Commitment You Don’t Intend To Keep

Text for Today: Rom. 7:7-15 “For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.” (vs. 15).

People with good intentions make promises, while people with good character keep them. Losers make promises they often break, while winners make commitment they always keep; on which side are you?

Beloved, I don’t respect people for making promises, I only respect them for keeping it, because that shows they are of good character. When you say you will do something and don’t do it, you teach others (including yourself) that you cannot be trusted.

As we continue in the journey of the ninth month of this great year, how far have you gone with your agenda and dreams you set out at the beginning of the year? From our text for today, Apostle Paul acknowledged his weakness that all that he wanted to do that are good, but he couldn’t do them, and the sin that is in him does all the things he wishes not to do just like you and I.

We made a resolution to follow, to do the right thing only to find out we are doing just the opposite of what we ought to do. At the beginning of the year, you pledged to be faithful in tithing, have you kept to the promise, you also vowed to be fully committed to evangelism, how far have you gone with it.

Also, you pledged not to hold any grudge against any man, don’t you have up to twenty-one people you hold grudge against as we speak? The good news is that, we have a helper –the Holy Spirit.

If we believe that we cannot do it on our own because we are human, then, we can receive forgiveness and help from Him. And that’s the only way we can be of good character by keeping our promises.

 You are a champion!

Further Study: Gal. 7:16-26.
