SELF-CONTROL IS A VIRTUE YOU MUST HAVE – Saturday, 23rd August 2025
Text for Today: Gal. 5:16-26 “gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” (vs. 23).
Whoever is not ready to pay the price that others are paying to get their dreams fulfilled can never have the same result along with them. The life that Jesus lived is a clear example to us on how to live our lives if our aim is to excel and do exploits in life. And one of the great virtues He displayed was that of self-control, despite the level of provocation that came His way. There was nothing the Pharisees and Sadducees did not do, so as to make Jesus to lose focus of his vision, but He kept His cool and moved ahead. With self-control, we control ourselves. We control our desires. Through self-control, we keep ourselves from doing something bad that we shouldn’t do, and we make ourselves do good things that we should do.
The perfect example of this fruit, self-control, is found in Jesus. Jesus is the one person who had perfect self-control His entire life. The Bible calls Jesus the one who “had no sin” (2 Cor. 5:21), which means He never sinned at all. Think about that kind of self-control! We might think that no one ever bothered Him, or nothing ever went wrong for Him. This is not true at all! For one thing, the Bible tells us that Jesus had lots of brothers and sisters (Matt. 13:55-56). Is it easy to live with brothers and sisters without ever being annoyed or frustrated with them? No way! In fact, the Bible says that Jesus was tempted to sin in every way that we are tempted (Heb. 4:15), which means His brothers, sister,s and the Pharisees probably bugged Him many times, but He never sinned. He had so much self-control that He did the right thing!
