THE MARVELOUS MYSTERY OF THE CROSS
Easter Good Friday Power Service (3rd April 2026)
Monthly Focus: Supernatural Power
Ministering: Pastor Wole Dahunsi
Texts: Matthew 27:45-54
Opening Charge: We call today a Good Friday because of what it represents in our lives, but it was a troubled and painful Friday for Jesus and His followers. This Friday is good for us because it redeemed us and brought us back to God.
Core Message
=> Over 2000 years ago, Jesus was nailed to the cross. He was wrongly accused and brutalized.
=> What happened over 2000 years ago serves as the foundation upon which our faith rests today. It also stands as the solid rock upon which we walk today.
Statements made by Jesus on the cross and how they pertain to us and our relationship with God
1. “Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing.” Luke 23:34.
=> Even in pain, He was still asking for the forgiveness of our sins.
2. “Woman, behold your son.” John 19:25-26.
=> A mother can do anything to save her child, but in the case of Jesus, Mary, His mother, couldn’t do anything.
=> This season should draw you closer to the cross and the things of God.
3. “Behold, your mother.” John 19:27.
4. “Truly, I say to you, today, you will be with Me in Paradise.” Luke 23:39-43.
=> It doesn’t matter how long a man is in error; if he realizes his mistakes, there is still hope for him.
Things to note about His crucifixion
1. Jesus Christ died as a sinner. According to the tradition of the Jews, only criminals are hanged on the cross.
=> 2 Corinthians 5:21.
=> All through the life of Jesus Christ, He lived a sinless life, but He died a sinner’s death.
2. Jesus Christ died as a substitute, and that is a mystery on its own.
=> Romans 5:8; 1 John 3:16; Isaiah 53:5-6.
=> He voluntarily released Himself, and took on our death and punishment. We couldn’t have been able to go through that agony.
=> When He was arrested, Peter cut off the ear of one of the servants, but Jesus reattached the ear. Even in that state, a miracle still happened.
3. Jesus Christ died as a saviour.
=> This is what we call the salvation experience. John 3:16.
=> Jesus’ death and the torn temple cloth gave us direct access to God. This began the relationship between us, and God, and it will continue till the second coming of Christ.
Admonition: Do not allow this season to pass you by without a change.
