THOSE WHO DESPISE CORRECTION DO NOT LAST (Thursday, 22nd January 2026)
Text for Today: Proverbs 15:18-32 “He who disdains instruction despises his own soul….” (vs. 32).
In the journey of life, to be corrected and to take to it is one of the principles that will take you to the throne. It is a great blessing to have some people around you, like your parents, pastors and others who could tell you the truth at all times and rebuke you if necessary so that you don’t destroy your life with bad attitudes and behavior. In the early eighties where I grew in my secondary school days, precisely at Agbowo, (a community opposite University of Ibadan), Oyo State, Nigeria, there was this boy in our neighbourhood who could be referred to as the most restless and stubborn boy around. I remembered vividly, several times that his mother pursued him all around the community and shouting at him as he ran ahead since the mother could not match up with his speed.
There was virtually nothing that the mother did not do to bring this boy to his senses since the father was late, but this boy chose to live his life anyhow. In the journey of life, whatever a man decides to do, he should be ready to face the consequences when it sets in. Along the line this boy got himself entangled with a bad gang who got involved in a scuffle one day with another gang which led to the death of two of them. This happened precisely in 1985, and as at the last time I heard about that young man who is now in his early fifies two years ago, he is still at Agodi prison, in Ibadan, where he and his friends are still serving their life sentence. It was the agony of losing her only son and only child that killed the mother few years back. Be wise!
