THE LIFE AND TIMES OF GIDEON: FROM FEAR TO FAITH
Word Encounter and Power Service (Wednesday, 27th May 2026)
Text: Judges 6:1-13
Ministering: Pastor Johnson
Background of Gideon
1. Gideon was a man who lived under fear and insecurity.
2. God called him a man of valor, but his best was being a wine presser. Someone who had the potential to save a nation was reduced to a wine presser as a result of circumstances.
3. God changed his life and transformed him into a mighty leader.
Lessons from the life of Gideon
1. God calls ordinary people.
=> People may have been seeing his weakness, but God was seeing the potential in Gideon’s life.
2. Fear can delay your destiny.
=> After God gave Gideon many assurances, he was still afraid. Judges 6:27.
3. God gives assurance, even in doubtful situations. Judges 6:36-40.
=> When God comes through for you at times, you see the realness and authenticity of God.
4. Victory comes from God, not by our strength. Judges 7:1-7.
=> Allow God to take center stage in your battles. You can’t do it by yourself.
5. Manage your success with humility. Judges 8:24-29.
=> This way, your success will not be your downfall again.
=> A good beginning at times does not guarantee a good ending.
=> We should be careful of the spoils of war.
Things to note
1. When God is absent in the life of a man, he is opening himself up to the attacks of the enemies.
2. God does not look at people’s backgrounds before using them.
3. God knows you more than you know yourself.
4. Regardless of your background, God can still bring out the best in you.
5. When God is involved, He rewrites people’s story and history.
6. Don’t follow the crowd. What matters is what God says.
