Theme: Why David was called a man after God’s heart
Text: 1 Samuel 13:14
Ministering: Pastor Wole Dahunsi
Introduction
=> Before the encounter in 1 Samuel 13:14, no one knew anything about David, aside from his family members.
=> However, God knew everything about him.
What necessitated Samuel calling David a man after God’s heart?
=> King Saul received an instruction to wait for 7 days for Samuel to offer the sacrifice.
=> Saul knew that the state of his kingdom was dependent on waiting, but he still couldn’t wait because of the pressure from people.
What qualifies David to be described as a man after God’s heart?
1. David’s faith.
=> This is made manifest in the way he confronted Goliath. That took great courage.
=> 1 Samuel 17:47.
2. David’s trust.
=> Despite Saul’s attempt on his life, David still had complete trust in what God had purposed to do in his life.
=> Even when he had the opportunity to kill Saul, he spared him.
=> David also had great respect for the anointed of God.
3. David’s humility.
=> When Saul offered Michal to David as a wife, his response was humble. 1 Samuel 18:22-23.
4. David was a worshipper.
=> David knew how to worship and praise God.
=> Psalms 32 and 51 stand out among all the psalms David wrote. He wrote them at the same time, and they both describe the goodness and faithfulness of God.
=> Beyond singing, you worship God with your heart, the words of your mouth, and your attitude.
