SERVE BECAUSE OF YOUR LOVE FOR GOD AND NOT BECAUSE OF THINGS (Sunday, 30th August 2026)
Text for Today: 2 Kings 3:1-12 “And one of the servants of the king of Israel answered and said, “Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who poured water on the hands of Elijah.” (vs. 11b).
Those who don’t turn back from kingdom service receive do not go empty handed in life. In my few years of journeying in God’s kingdom, even before I became a pastor, I have labored consistently to add value to the church where I belong to through service. Far before the church I pastor, Covenant Champions started 19 years ago, kingdom service has been a part and parcel of my daily life. I am so passionate about God’s kingdom that, there is nothing I cannot do whenever there is a call on me. And all through the years, my service has singled me out for honour, lifting and numerous blessings. I am daily encouraged to keep on firing from both cylinders in the place of service. Those who have no time to serve God don’t know what they are missing in life.
From our text for today, we are told of how Elisha poured water on the hand of Elijah the servant of God who was his master for many years. There were other sons of prophets also in the same class as Elisha but he distinguished himself through his service when he thought no one was looking. He remained glued to his assignment not because of what he will get but because of the love he has for God and his master. No wonder when God was to take Elijah away, God asked him to anoint Elisha as the next prophet in the land. And very much later in 2 Kings 3:10-11, there was a vacancy for the post of prophet of God in the palace and Elisha’s name was mentioned by those who knew him to be a faithful servant under Elijah then and he was called to stand before two kings and gave them his counsel.

- Father, I thank you for the privilege of knowing you.
- Dear Lord, open my eyes to the mystery of kingdom service.
- I shall not be too big in my sight to serve in your house.
