HE LACKED DISCERNING SPIRIT AND DIED A CHEAP DEATH (Thursday, 11th December 2025)
Text for Today: 1 kings 21:1-17 “But Naboth said to Ahab, The lord forbid that I should give the inheritance of my fathers to you.” (vs. 3).
The story of Naboth was one of the most painful stories of a wasted destiny in the Bible. His life was wasted because he was not watchful and prayerful. The world we are in is a battle ground and not a funfair ground. That’s why you can’t afford to live a careless life because the devil is not a gentle man at all. From our text for today, we can see that Naboth was a good man, principled and a man of high policy. He must be the sort of a man who will not do evil deliberately, he must have hated the government of Ahab in his days, he must have been an actionist when Ahab met him to sell the vineyard to him, he refused bluntly and he went home.
Ahab could have taken it without even consulting him but he still went ahead to ask him to sell. Sometimes, it is good to retreat so that our lives can be preserved. The Bible did not say that he went home to pray but Ahab went home and told Jezebel an evil woman who carefully planned the execution of Naboth by first putting in a place of honor so as to accuse him falsely. Naboth was not watchful and he lacked discerning spirit and that was why he died a cheap death. The question is, while Jezebal was holding secret meetings on how to get rid of Naboth, what was Naboth doing? For instance, after Samballat and Tobiah rose up against Nehemiah, he didn’t keep quiet, he went before God in prayer right away. Beloved, you’ve got to be careful when your enemies begin to sing your praise, be careful and prayerful when those who hate you begin to look out for you.
You are a Champion!
