The Price Of Greatness Is Responsibility
Text for Today: Num. 21:4-9 “And so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.” (vs. 9b).
Most people do not really want freedom, because freedom involves responsibility and most people are frightened of responsibility. Whenever a man or a group of people find themselves in the midst of a crisis and they cry to God for help, the response they will get from God will always place a responsibility on them to carry out if they truly desire solution.
Such was the case of the Israelites who after crying to God for help was further given a responsibility to carry out. The Israelites spoke out against God and against Moses.
They complained about the desert, the food, and the water. As punishment, for their grumbling and murmuring, poisonous snakes bit and killed many of the people. God’s people repented, asking for His help.
God directed Moses to make a bronze snake and set it up on a pole. According to God’s promise, those bitten by the poisonous snakes found healing by looking at the bronze snake on the pole.
Just like the bronze snake, Jesus has been lifted up on the pole of the cross, and thus, he draws us to faith, healing and giving life to those who believe in His name. Like the Israelites, we turn against him in rebellion and disobedience, even complaining about His care.
We have been bitten by the poisonous “bite” of sin. However, God promises forgiveness, healing and life through His Son, Jesus. He was lifted up on the cross for our salvation.
I like you to know that forgiveness from the poisonous “bite” of sin and healing will be made available only if you look up to Him.
You are a Champion!
Further Study: Luke John 2:1-12.
