HE COULDN’T SAY PRECISELY WHERE HE WAS GOING TO (Saturday, 15th August 2026)

Text for Today: Gen. 12:1-9 “Now the LORD had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, from your family; And from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you.” (vs. 1).

I was preaching on this passage few weeks back in the church, and I said, while Abraham left his country many people must have laughed at him knowing that he couldn’t say precisely where he was going to. Taking step of faith at times will cause some people around you not to understand you, particularly those who do not share your faith or belief. Beloved, leaving a familiar terrain for a relatively unknown place is one of the most difficult decisions a man has to make in life. From our text for today, Abraham had no significant problem where he was, but his destiny can never be fulfilled there, that was why God told him to check out.

Many years ago, precisely 1996, I was led to leave the house of one of my uncles I was staying with then when I just started working in a nursery and primary school, to go and squat with a friend in a suburb area of the city. Those who heard about it then laughed at me, saying something must be wrong with you, leaving a three bedroom flat to go and stay in single room in a house that has no modern toilet. I will forever be grateful to God because I took that step then, although it was hard and painful, but God used it to teach me some vital lessons of life I still make use of till today. The strange instruction God gave Abraham was designed both to try his faith and obedience, and also, to set him apart for greater glory. If he had refused to go out, as God instructed, all because he was not sure of where God was taking him to, it is possible we may not have heard anything about him today. Be wise!
