DON’T ALLOW OTHER PEOPLE’S SUCCESS TO DESTABILIZE YOU (Sunday, 19th April 2026)
Text for Today: 1 Sam. 18:6-16 “Then Saul was very angry, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed to David ten thousands…” (vs.8).
For as long as the earth remains, there will be some people around you who will have access to few things you don’t have yet. One of the convictions you must have in life is to constantly reaffirm that you are somebody, irrespective of the progress those around you have made already. Many people have gone into serious crisis of their lives that has taken them down the ladder of destiny instead of high-flying ones, basically because they couldn’t manage the success of others very well. Whatever accomplishment anyone records around you should not destabilize you to the point of misbehaving.
If you want to enjoy your life and find fulfillment you must run away from having presumed expectations about how someone else should be or the height he should get to in life. From our text for today, the moment David triumphed over Goliath and the women sang praises of him, King Saul became destabilized and began to misbehave. The Bible says, he set his eyes on David to kill him. King Saul ought to have celebrated and rewarded David for saving him from national disgrace and embarrassment. It was his duty as the king to protect the lives of his people, of which Goliath became a serious threat to. Rather than thanking David for helping him out, he became envious of him and did all he could to kill him. But he had God to contend with since David had his trust in God. Whoever comes under the siege of evil envy because of another man’s achievement will destroy himself one day, just like it happened to king Saul.
